MS TechDays 2009 Agenda Planner

Cette application pour Windows Mobile permet de gérer ton agenda des Microsoft TechDays 2009

En exclusivité mondiale cette année, Microsoft France propose de gérer l'agenda de la prochaine édition des Microsoft TechDays 2009 directement depuis votre PDA, équipé de Windows Mobile Professional (à partir de la version 5.0). Donc, seuls les périphériques équipés d'écran tactile peuvent utiliser cette application.
De plus, vous aurez la possibilité de synchroniser ton agenda PDA avec celui du site Web d'inscription, et ce dans les deux sens ! Mais encore, faire des recherches très sophistiquées et envoyer des informations sur nos sessions favorites à vos amis et collègues, via SMS ou email !

Dans la vidéo de démonstration, on peut voir Pascal transmettre un fichier MSTD09.Inscription à l'application pour effectuer la synchronisation. Pour le moment, il n'existe pas encore de lien sur le site d'inscription te permettant de générer le fichier. Une petite astuce en attendant la mise à jour du site prévue cette semaine :

Cela devrait provoquer le téléchargement de ce fichier qui ne contient rien d'autre que ton identifiant d'inscription, sous la forme d'un GUID, à copier sur votre PDA pour effectuer la fameuse synchronisation bidirectionnelle.
Une bonne nouvelle ne venant jamais seule : les sources de cette application seront publiées dès la fin des TechDays 2009. J

Abstract:
Based on feedback from MVPs and other sources, we are concerned about the rise in reported infections due to the worm Win32/Conficker.B also known as “Downadup.” Though systems which have already applied the out-of-band released MS08-067 in October 2008 are protected, unpatched system user have experienced system lockout and other problems.

Last week, we released a version of the Malicious Software Removal tool (MSRT) that can help remove variants of Win32/Conficker and other resources. Please share this information in your communities to help address this threat.

Background
Win32/Conficker.B exploits a vulnerability in the Windows Server service (SVCHOST.EXE) for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2008. While Microsoft addressed this issue in October with Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-067, and Forefront antivirus and OneCare (as well as other vendor’s anit-virus products) helped protect against infections, many systems that have not been patched manually through Server Update Services and Microsoft/Windows Update or through Automatic Updates have recently come under attack by this worm. Attacked systems may lock out users, disable our update services and block access to security-related Web sites:

In response to this threat, Microsoft has:
· Updated the January version of the MSFT to detect and remove variants of Win32/Conficker.B. You can download this version from the MSRT from either the Microsoft Update site or through its associated Knowledge Base article.
· Created the KB article 962007 “Virus alert about the Win32/Conficker.B worm” to provide public details on the symptoms and removal methods available to address this issue.
· Announced the release of the items and the virus threat itself on the Microsoft Malware Protection Center blog.

It is our hope that these resources can assist you in resolving issues with unpatched, infected systems and that you can apply MS08-067 to any other unpatched systems as soon as possible to avoid this threat.

Recommendations for Power Budgeting with Windows Server

Inefficient allocation of power and cooling resources in data centers can result in unused power capacity. This increases costs and artificially limits the number of servers that can be deployed. To address the overallocation of power budgets, many server vendors have introduced power management solutions that try to enable the capping of power consumption on a per-machine basis to reduce the unused capacity. However, some of these solutions can have negative or unintended consequences when they overlap, conflict, or otherwise interfere with the power management capabilities that are supported in Windows Server operating systems.
This paper summarizes common approaches to power budgeting in the server marketplace and recommends best practices to ensure that these solutions work as intended and interoperate with Windows Server power management capabilities. Session Techdays 2009

J'aurais la chance d'animer la session « Sécuriser et optimiser la gestion de vos serveurs Web » http://galilee.microsoft.fr/TechDays2009/Session.aspx?CellID=c5955e32-0c4c-4d33-b20e-97a6c696bcbd prévue le 11 février à 14h30.
Ce sera l'occasion de rappeler les bonnes pratiques en matière de sécurisation des serveurs Web, des nouvelles sécurités de IIS 7 ainsi que l'automatisation de l'administration de IIS en utilisant Powershell et les outils de Windows Server 2008 (pkgmgr, appcmd, etc.).

Très bonne intiative de la part de Microsoft afin de permettre aux clients de trouver une solution à leur problème : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx (en anglais pour le moment). Vivement la version française !

Les 10 % d'utilisation d'Office

Certains prétendent utiliser 10 % de la suite bureautique Microsoft Office (nous supposerons qu'ils connaissent 100 % des fonctionnalités pour réaliser cette estimation). Une étude sur 20 000 utilisateur permet de mieux comprendre quelles fonctionnalités par pratiquement tous les utilisateurs et celles qui sont plus exotiques (mais pas forcément inutiles pour tous).
Découvrez combien d'utilisateurs seraient bloqués si 10 commandes les moins utilisées étaient supprimées.
